Benefits of Membership:
We have over a 100 members who compete in most of the Local and BTA races around the Country plus a ‘hard core’ who race around the world in Ironman events. The club has a regular number of social events and an end of season Awards Night. Small groups also get together to organise cycling training weeks in Majorca most years plus weekends away such as a Surfing weekend or Climbing session. TVT club is not just about training hard but also about having fun!
The training in the Club consists of 2 swim sessions per week, 3 running sessions (1 track) and a group cycle ride at the weekend throughout the year. In addition there are small groups of like-minded individuals who get together for additional training sessions. We run a few specialised weekend training sessions a year with top triathlon, swimming & cycling coaches. In addition we have also run Open Water swim sessions. The Club has the benefit of a Senior BTA Coach who oversees the training program. We run regular training sessions on all aspects of Triathlon throughout the year and have a number of specialised Training Weekends.
For those who like to know what they get for their money (£30). You get reduced cost of membership to the BTA which saves you the BTA race levy (£3). Our swimming sessions are subsidised, as are the training weekends. As a club member you get discounts with local Retail and Business Partners. You also become a Corporate member of Rivers giving members a £5 discount per month. Coaching at Club sessions is free. You get regular News sent by email giving details of what’s going on in the club plus results and training info. Most of this subsidy comes not from the membership fee but from the money raised by our annual Triathlon called Concorde. Go to the Friends of TVT page for a detailed list of cycle and sports shops that offer discounts to club members.
Putting back into the Sport of Triathlon
We run an annual sprint event. This event typically attracts 300+ competitors a large number of whom are new to Triathlon. Club Members do not race but help out for this event. The club also runs a Do-Tri every other year to encourage people into Triathlon. This is a much shorter event and targeted at absolute beginners. Novices are talked through what is involved before the event and give every help on race day to get them round. Many have gone on to become members of the club.
While essentially an individual sport, the Club runs a League to encourage Members to race in selected events and compete against each other. We have separate nominated events as a Club Championship for Sprint, Olympic, Middle and Ironman distance races. We also have a handicap system in these events to encourage all to take part. The Club also enters Teams in the National Club relays every year. A number of members compete in the World Age Group Championships every year. In the winter we also take part in a local Cross Country Running League.
