The TVT Coach Team will endeavour to inform club members of any changes of cancellations to training by email well in advance.  However we do sometimes have to cancel at short notice e.g. pool breakdowns.  Please check the emails, website, facebooks pages or twitter for the latest training news including cancellations, date changes etc.

Senior Cycling:

  • Tuesday/Thursday 20.15 – 21.45 – The track at Palmer Park (Reading Velodrome) is available for training all year round.  In the summer months this is restricted to track bikes only, please check website below.  Price, subject to change, £3.70.  In Autumn, Winter and Spring there are sometimes a few TVT members on Tuesdays & Thursday evening.
  • Saturday – TVT offer several cycle training groups with varying pace and objectives (Fast, Medium, Development, Brick Sessions), all departing on Saturday mornings. Times / venues vary, if interested please contact at training@thamesvalleytriathletes.co.uk

The Development ride group contains many good athletes.  The group may split into smaller groups if a lot of riders attend.  This is the only group that provides skills development and group coaching regularly. This group goes for 2 to 3 hours ride sessions.

The medium and fast ride groups meet at the same place and many members will choose to go out with either group depending on what stage of training they are in.  These groups can be out for between 2 and 4 hours.

The Brick sessions combine at least two disciplines in one training session. Run & Ride, Swim & Ride, Swim & Run. These sessions are pre-agreed and vary throughout the year to fit specific goals.

Cycling Ground Rules

  1. The group coordinator will email out to the group no later than Thursday or Friday with details of the ride.  If you would like to get on to the email list please become a member, check the Members Area and let us know what experience you have so we can match you up with the right group leader.   Everyone is welcome to join a ride for a week or two but we do ask that you join as a club member if you are considering riding regularly.
  2. All Cyclists must wear a Helmet.
  3. All Cyclist MUST be self sufficient (carry 2 spare tubes ,Tyre Levers, Pump, mobile phone, money for the Gorge Café)
  4. The group will leave the start venue on time – if you are late then its tough!!
  5. The group will stay together and look after each other. (Please see note below).
  6. The group leader may cancel or abort the ride at any time
  7. The group leader has final say on all safety issues
  8. The group leader may ask a rider not to ride with a group if they feel that the group is unsuitable in terms of ability for the rider.
  9. All riders take part their own risk

Riders are reminded that they will be looked after by the group providing that they have attended on a regular basis and not just arrived because the weather is nice.

In terms of point 5.  There are now 4 cycle groups.  If you are too slow or fast we will suggest you move group.  If you feel tired one day, move down the group etc.  Please be honest about your ability on the day otherwise you could ruin you enjoyment and the other members of the group.  The cycle groups are a fantastic asset to a club of this size, so use it to the advantage of everyone.
