A stunning early morning cloudless sky, moderated by a chilly breeze, woke me up on the 7am ride to the start point of the Maxifuel Longest Day Sportive at the iconic Eton Dorney venue – home to the Olympic rowing regatta.

The event organisers (F3 events) had cleverly utilised the venue to hold several activities in parallel – a duathlon, two Sportive distances and a 5km/10km run. So arriving at the venue there was a hive of activity, with a glorious view out over the rowing course, shimmering in the early morning sunlight.

TVT Club is happy to announce that the 2012 TVT Concorde Sprint Triathlon will be held on Sunday, 19 August 2012.

Concorde is TVT’s annual sprint triathlon based at Bradfield College near Theale. This event typically attracts 300+ competitors a large number of whom are new to Triathlon.

The target is to raise £2,012,000 for charity.

Paul, who is a resident of Wokingham and a member of Thames Valley Triathletes, is one of over 500 participants who are busy preparing for the event. He is taking part in stage 5 – the champagne leg – fulfilling a boyhood dream to be ride into the London Olympic stadium!

His aims are three fold:

• To personally raise over £3,000 for the event charities;
• To complete the 578 km of cycling in 4 days – covering an undulating route through Northern France and South East England with some 15,000 feet of climbing;
• To use the 2012 London Olympics as a way of raising awareness in the benefits of a fit and healthy lifestyle.

The money raised is going to three fantastic causes:

1. the Dallaglio Foundation is supporting a cutting edge research project that will help develop more effective and personalised treatments for prostate cancer;
2. the AF Foundation is developing and improving Child Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy Units,
3. and Virgin Unite is helping people tackle tough social and environmental problems with an entrepreneurial approach.

Paul commented “I was lucky enough to win a place on this years Cycle Slam through a Virgin Media customer competition. Cycling is one of the three disciplines in my sport of triathlon, so my training is going well. I do need people to support my fund-raising efforts though – these are fantastic causes that make all the personal training effort worthwhile”.

Remember that at the end of the Time Trial season we participate at the friendly Team Time Trial Event against MDCC. Last year we lost by less than 3mins!… Nuff said….  Triathletes get on yer bikes and hammer it!… GO TVT GO!!

Please also note that the Turbo Session have now stopped and will resume in Early October!

Over 800 athletes competed in the 10k run – 42k bike – 5k run for National Honours.

Louise Bardsley finished 3^rd in 02:12.10, behind Amy Forshawin 2^nd02:11.16 and the champion Anna Turvey in 02:11.12 in a closely fought race for the 30-34 age group.  These were also the three fastest ladies overall on the day.

Reminder for Members: The weekly turbo sessions have been very popular and we will continue these throughout March. 

Venue:  Sports Pavilion, Arborfield Park. Arborfield Court, Swallowfield Road, Arborfield, Reading, RG2 9JS

How to get there: take the Swallofield turning of the big roundabout and turn right into the park after 200m.

Dates/Times: The sessions will run from 7:30pm till 8:30pm for every Thursday.

What to bring: Please bring your own turbo, sweat towel etc. There is a kitchen available to make drinks etc.

The best bit is these sessions are still free.  If any members have any cycling workout DVD’s e.g. spinervals that we can borrow please bring them to any training session.

From Nov 4th, all Friday Swim Sessions will take place at David Lloyd – Thames Valley Park for training. Usual pool times. Arrive early to register for the session!

Each year TVT compete in the Thames Valley Cross Country League.

Impressive results and a lot of courage shown by TVT members (and friends) racing Challenge Henley 2011!

Interesting notes:

• Such was the racing between the groups that all 5 teams were leading at different times during the race!
• Joel led the overall swim out at T1 of swim 1 in 6:13mins!!
• Simon Fox led the 5 teams after first leg of bike in blistering mid 22 minute ride in windy conditions.
• Team 2 got the lead after 2nd bike leg with strong cycles from Claire and Alex G.
• Simon Fox led out Team 1 on the run 1st TVT team with 3 other teams just a couple of minutes back.
• Paul Gittings got the lead in the 2nd run for Team 4.
• Before the start of the final run all team mates were anxiously checking their watches to see what time gaps remain by final changeover.
• Ewan of team 4 led out the run with a lead of 45 seconds. Looking across the lake at about 1.5km into the run Ewan had a 60 second led over Alex Scott and Paul Albrow, how long could he hold on!?
• Alex Scott gradually closed the gap and overtook Ewan on the long home straight.

Hi All

I hope that you are all well and your summer racing as gone as expected. This is just a short note to say that all cycling will return on a regular basis late September or early October.

In the mean time I hope that you will join me in thanking all the ride leaders and coachers for the work that they have done over last winter and the spring.

We are putting in a new kit order. Please e-mail all orders to KIT MANAGER by Friday 12 August. The kit takes a few months to arrive so please think about ordering gear for the winter.

Our kit is supplied by Endura. This kit is generally of excellent quality and is worn by many club members for training and racing. You will be amazed at the extra support you receive in races when you wear TVT club kit! The crowds pick you out and cheer you on even overseas. I reckon it must be worth more time than a pair of posh
wheels but for a fraction of the cost!
